Chest feelings after a stent: why, and when to worry
Some soreness in the chest in the first few days is normal. Pain like your old heart pain, or pain that does not stop with rest, needs help.
From the NHS and the British Heart Foundation.
Not every chest pain is the heart
After a stent, it is natural to link every pain to your heart. But chest pain has many other causes:
- heartburn, a burning feeling after food,
- sore muscles, after lifting or sleeping in an odd position,
- worry and fear.
Worry can cause real chest pain
Pain from worry is common. It can feel like heart pain. The chest may feel squeezed, and the heart may race.
When a doctor says “it is not your heart”, it can be hard to believe. Breathing exercises, talking therapy and sometimes medicine can help.
What Dr Muralidar sees
Many patients feel something in the chest all the time, and worry about it. When they exercise with the team watching, they see what their heart can do. For many, the fear gets smaller.
What happens at Cardiac Rehab
- A doctor checks you first.
- You get an exercise plan made for you.
- You exercise for 90 minutes, 3 times a week, while the doctor’s team watches.
- Step by step, the exercise gets harder as you get stronger.
Why it helps with this
A 2025 review of 36 trials looked at heart patients. Exercise done in person, with a team, was linked to less worry and less low mood. Exercise at home was not.
Dr Muralidar sees this often: in rehab, people see their heart handle exercise, with the team watching. Many then trust their body again.
Heart guidelines in the US (AHA and ACC) and in Europe (ESC) give cardiac rehab their highest grade: Class I, Level A.
Cardiac Rehab, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad runs these sessions.
